SOURCES & LICENSES
Built from open knowledge,
credited at the source.
MADCAT stores definitions on your device. “Free to download” does not mean copyright-free, so every imported pack keeps its provenance, license, modification notice, and warranty disclaimer.
Wordset Dictionary
Terms. Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0, with the included Princeton WordNet notice.
MADCAT transforms the JSON release into an IndexedDB index on first use. The source reports roughly 177,000 meanings; this build contains 108,133 headword entries. Legacy or community-edited definitions may contain errors, bias, or dated language.
Princeton WordNet 2.1
Terms. WordNet license; copyright Princeton University. Use, copying, modification, and distribution are permitted when the required notice and disclaimer are preserved.
Wordset began with WordNet and includes the required WordNet notice. Princeton does not endorse MADCAT.
English Wiktionary dumps
Terms. Wiktionary text is generally available under CC BY-SA 4.0 and GFDL, with attribution and ShareAlike obligations; individual imported materials may have separate terms.
The full dump is not silently bundled because of its size and provenance requirements. A future importer must retain entry-level attribution and exclude incompatible media or quotations.
OPTED
Terms. Derived from the 1913 Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary / Project Gutenberg material. Verify the applicable source notice before redistribution in each jurisdiction.
Not merged into this build because a clear machine-readable license file and stable bulk-download manifest were not available during verification.
WordNet tools
Terms. Individual archives may carry their own notices; these tools are not dictionary content.
Listed for reproducibility. They are not bundled into the reader.
